I have been away from this blog for a long while now (almost 2 years), MANY things happened and my life has completely and eternally changed. Today i’ll talk about the first of those big changes that happened to me, and that is my studies. I have started a Masters Program in Interior Design in June 2016. The process has been both exciting and challenging, as I have always been busy with other challenges since I started my studies.

The concept for my MA project is to renovate the deserted Värta Gas plant in Stockholm and turn it into a dynamic Cultural Centre that is a “Living Machine”, where people of different ethnicities, ages, backgrounds can meet, communicate and share doing what they like to do.

I started experimenting with making Sketch-models to reach the best form that achieves my creative concept, and to imagine the relationships between the different components of the design layout.
I am now in a phase where I need to reach the best Design solution for two zones: the Exterior Entrance and the Central Courtyard (that stretches between the Basement and Ground floors). I have different ideas and sometimes I feel i’m distracted and confused about which path shall I follow.
In the entrance zone; inspired by the “living Machine” concept I have for the interiors of the project; I used the bold lines that form the interior “center of attraction Tower” to create intertwining platforms that extends from the central core to the outside, taking different levels and forming the main entrance while giving space for the visitors to enjoy the East-Southern Sun on adjacent public informal platforms.

As to the other goal of this creative process; the design of the Central Courtyard zone; I have suggested 3 options to solve the challenges in that area and to add to the attraction of the overall design. In option 1, there are Arena-inspired seating zones surrounding the central “Tower” offering the chance for the public to sit informally, enjoy the view of the dramatic change in levels and design from their very low viewpoint.

In the second option, I made a change in the layout by omitting some of the seating zones and adding a “suspended”, hovering floor that offers a chance for relaxation in a pool (a transparent one that shows the level underneath) and greenery, while being a green canopy over the Spa activities in the level below.

While in the third; I imagined two bridges that are crossing over the courtyard and make it easier for the audience to reach the functions in the Ground floor instead of going around the courtyard, while having the excitement of overlooking the activities that are taking place in the below level (at the courtyard), again with reducing the seating zones to adapt to the form of the bridges.
All options have informal Restaurant/ Cafe tables for the public, and a central podium surrounded by trees.

I’m going through intensive sketching and creative comparison process to reach my goals, I will even start interviewing people to gain their opinions. What about you? Do you have intuitive insights to this project that might help me?
I have some intuitive insights for you. This is awful! You say it’s supposed to resemble a ”living machine”? More like a ”living pile of shit”. Ever thought of a change in career?

Hi. Thank you for your “intuitive” insight. Go tell your pathetic friend that she is even more pathetic now for stalking people on their blogs and bully them there.
Losers👎🏼😑

What are your plans after PhD? LoL! There is still a long way to go and many things can happen within the, at least, two years remaining until my expected graduation. My only plan, currently, is to continue preforming a job that promotes practical innovation, which is possible to be done either within academia industry.
